Petrol prices to rise 5p a litre in the UKAccording to the latest estimates, the petrol prices in the UK are set to rise 5p a litre across the petrol pumps in the UK.

The monitoring agency, the AA has said that a rise in wholesale cost of petrol across Europe already pushed up prices and the new increase will further add to the pressure on the households in the country. The average UK petrol prices have risen from 134.61p a litre in June to 135.78p at present while diesel prices have risen from 139.16p a month ago to 140.24p at present.

The AA said that an increase of 100 dollars per tonne in the cost of petrol in north west Europe as well s a weaker pound in the global markets has increased the price of petrol by 5p in the UK. Estimates showed that London and the North West recorded the cheapest ate for petrol at 135.5p a litre on average while Northern Ireland recorded the highest average price at 136.6p.

AA president Edmund King said, "After the price of petrol stabilised at around 134.6p a litre through much of this June, and weeks were filled with beautiful weather and sporting excellence, it was perhaps inevitable that oil and fuel market speculators would cast a black cloud over what was promising to be a glorious summer."
