New Delhi, Mar 27: The Delhi High Court will today hear the anticipatory bail application of BJP leader Varun Gandhi in an alleged case of making inflammatory and communal speech while campaigning in Pilibhit constituency.

On March 20, the court had granted anticipatory bail to Varun. He has got bail on a personal bond of 50,000 rupees.

According to sources, Varun has decided not to approach the court to seek an

extension of his anticipatory bail, and instead court arrest in the district headquarters of his constituency.

Mumbai, Mar 25 : Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Pilibhit constituency Varun Gandhi, who has been accused of making inflammatory anti-Muslim remarks, has thanked Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray for supporting him for his speech.

"I am overwhelmed by his support. I am grateful to him and thank him," party mouthpiece ''Saamna'' on Wednesday quoted Varun as saying.

The Election Commission had issued a notice to Gandhi, charging him of violating the Model Code of Conduct for elections by making communal remarks at an election meeting in Pilibhit on March 6.

Allahabad, Mar 25 : The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday dismissed BJP candidate Varun Gandhi''s plea seeking quashing of an FIR filed against him for his alleged anti-Muslims remarks.

Varun had moved the Allahabad High Court on March 19 challenging the criminal case lodged against him on the directives of the Election Commission.

Bangalore, Mar 24 : Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik has said that he and his group would support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, who is in trouble after his alleged anti-Muslim speech.

Muthalik also said that Gandhi had the guts to speak the truth.

"He has the guts to speak the truth. Rama Sene would support him. I think every true Hindu would support him," Muthalik said on the sidelines of a function organised by the Vishwa Hindu Dharma Rakshana Vedike at the Town Hall here.

Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 23 : Priyanka Gandhi on Monday slammed her estranged cousin and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi for his communal speech, saying his remarks were against the traditions and principles of the Gandhi family.

“Varun’s comments are against the traditions and principles of the Gandhi family, and he has gone against what the Gandhis have lived and died for. It made me very sad to see him saying those things,” Priyanka told reporters here.

New Delhi - India's Election Commission has found the grandson of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi guilty of making anti-Muslim statements during political rallies and said he should not be nominated as a candidate for the upcoming general elections, news reports said Monday.

In an order issued late Sunday night, the Election Commission said the speeches by Varun Gandhi contained "highly derogatory references and seriously provocative language of a wholly unacceptable nature against a certain community," the Indian Express daily reported.
