Pawar asks agricultural scientists to evolve farmer oriented technologies

Sharad PawarNew Delhi, Feb 23 : Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today asked agricultural scientists to evolve technologies that result in higher incomes for farmers without harming the country''s natural resources.

Addressing farmers and agricultural scientists after inaugurating the Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela (agriculture fair) at IARI, Pusa, Pawar said: "Agricultural scientists must also see that the technologies are easy to adopt in Indian conditions."

Pawar inaugurates conference of VCs of Agricultural Universities

Sharad PawarNew Delhi, Feb 16 : Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar inaugurated a two-day conference of Vice-Chancellors of the agricultural universities on Monday.

Inaugurating the conference, Pawar said that the Integrated Farming System needs a good fertilizer policy for its support.

"The Integrated Farming System needs a good fertilizer policy for its support, the Government has recently taken a historical decision by moving to nutrient-based pricing and subsidy, and allowing additional cost of fortification and coating of fertilizers to manufactures," Pawar said.

Sharad Pawar urges agricultural scientists to adopt innovative technologies

Sharad PawarNew Delhi, Feb 4 : Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today urged the agricultural scientists to introduce innovative technologies.

Speaking at a function on World Congress on Agriculture Conservation here, Pawar said that the slowdown in agriculture sector adversely affected the farmers in all countries, more in poverty ridden countries. However its impact in India is minimal.

He identified enhancement of agricultural production and farm income as the major global challenges in this area.

Canadian and Indian ministers to sign pact on agriculture cooperation

New Delhi, Jan. 12 : Canadian Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Gerry Ritz, and his Indian counterpart, Minister for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Sharad Pawar, will meet in New Delhi on January 13, 2009, and sign the first comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agriculture between Canada and India.

The bilateral MoU on agricultural cooperation encourages sharing of knowledge on emerging technologies, agricultural marketing, and animal development. This cooperation will lead to increased exports between the countries by creating new marketing opportunities for farmers from both countries.

Pawar asks farmers to exploit potato export potential

Sharad PawarNew Delhi, Dec. 9 : Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar, called upon farmers to exploit the vast potential for export of potatoes by adopting available technology and maintaining high quality.

He was addressing the farmers after inaugurating the Global Potato Conference here today.

Over 400 scientists, trade and industry representatives and policy makers from all continents are attending the Conference, said a press releasse.

A large number of farmers are also attending the Conference.
