Varanasi, Mar 13 : President Pratibha Patil will address the 91st convocation of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here today.

President Patil will also give away medals to the graduates.

The President is arriving here on a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh.

BHU is regarded as the largest residential university in Asia. The fully residential campus has more than 128 independent teaching departments. Its 1350-acre campus was built on land donated by the Kashi Naresh.

New Delhi, Mar 8 : President Pratibha Patil will launch the `Save Girl Child' campaign on the occasion of International Women''s Day today.

The President will administer a mass oath at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

A gender development index and a report on gender empowerment measures in India will also be released to mark the occasion.

Besides, a report on the `Bell Bajao' campaign and on appointment of protection officers for the implementation of the Child Marriage Act and Prohibition of Domestic Violence Act will also be released.

The First lady President of India Hon. Pratibhatai Patil has agreed to meet Sushama Shiromanee Hon General secretary of the FFI (Film Federation of India, an apex body of the film industry of India), to open new vistas for the betterment of the film fraternity.

At the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the Medical Council of India (MCI) on Sunday, President Pratibha Patil said that the medical interns should be sent to villages for their training.

She said that this would make them receptive to the requirements in the country’s rustic regions, and hopefully encourage them to work there.

In her speech, Ms. Patil said, “A very important aspect of medical education is the internship phase. I have always emphasised on sending medical interns to our villages as part of their training.”

New Delhi, Feb 25 : President Pratibha Patil today called for inclusive approache to correct the inequities in higher education.

Addressing the Sub-regional Conference of South, South-West and Central Asia on Higher Education here, Patil said, “Expansion of the higher education system must be accompanied by steps to ensure quality and high standards.”

“ Adjustments need to be made within institutions especially on learning strategies and curriculum content. Quality assurance mechanisms which encourage the robust development of higher education should be adopted”, she added
