Itanagar, Apr 1 : President Pratibha Patil will arrive here today on a three-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh.

During her visit, the President will attend the silver jubilee function and convocation of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) in Itanagar.

The foundation stone of the institute was laid by then President Giani Zail Singh in 1984.

The President will also visit Tawang, during which she will go to the Monastery there as also the War Memorial.

New Delhi, Mar 31 : Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Atomic Energy Commission of India (AECI) chief Anil Kakodkar were among the recipients of the Padma awards from President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday.

Aishwarya Rai, a former Miss World and now a member of the Bachchan family, received a Padma Shree award for her contribution to the field of entertainment.

Akshay Kumar, a globally acclaimed actor, also received a Padma Shree.

New Delhi, March 29 : The President Pratibha Patil on Sunday accepted resignations of Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and R. Velu, Minister of State in the Ministry of Railways, from the Council of Ministers, with immediate effect.

The resignations, as advised by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, have been accepted under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution of India.

New Delhi, Mar 27 : The nation is celebrating Ugadi, Chaitra and Navratra, the official beginning of summer according to the Hindu calendar on Friday.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has sent her best wishes to the people on the occasion.

In her message, she said that these festivals celebrated in a wide variety of ways in different parts of the country, reflect our diversity and yet underline the unity of the nation.
