Chidambaram to inaugurate Economic Editors'' Conference today

P ChidambaramNew Delhi, Nov 24 : Finance Minister P. Chidambaram will inaugurate the three three-day annual Economic Editors'' Conference at the National Media Centre organized by the Press Information Bureau.

There will be separate sessions with the Ministers and senior officers of the key economic and infrastructure ministries participating in the conference.

The conference will enable economic editors and journalists, invited from all over the country to interact with them and get a detailed background of the government''s policies and programmes.

Real estate developers announces up to 5 percent discount on existing projects

P ChidambaramNew Delhi, Nov 21 : Welcoming Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram''s appeal of cutting real estate prices to stimulate domestic demand, real estate developers'' association in New Delhi on Friday announced up to five percent discount on the existing projects.

Earlier this week, Chidambaram urged companies to cut real estate prices to stimulate domestic demand. He highlighted the fact that the state-run banks had assured him that they were ready to lend to borrowers.

Some real state consultants say that prices of homes in National Capital Region (NCR) have fallen by 10-15 per cent due to a fall in demand.

Government to extend all help to industry

Parliament has approved Rs 1.05 lakh crore, besides Rs 6.5 lakh crore proposed in the budget in February. The finance minister also asked for price cut to boost demand amid global slowdown. He said that rupee condition would soon improve following steps taken by government.

Addressing at the World Economic Forum''s India Summit here, the Minister said, "India has already cut interest rates and taken a series of measures to boost liquidity in its banking system after the credit crisis spilled into its markets in October."
