Ahmadinejad: Iran ready to help US in solving global problems

Mahmoud AhmadinejadTehran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he would be ready to help the United States in solving global problems, the official news agency IRNA reported Friday.

In a meeting with the new Swiss ambassador to Tehran, Ahmadinejad said that Iran would welcome "real changes" by the new US administration of President Barack Obama, however, under the condition that the atmosphere of bilateral relations would be based on respect and equality.

Ahmadinejad rejects Western concerns over Iranian-made satellite

Mahmoud AhmadinejadTehran- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday rejected concerns and worry in the West over the launch into orbit Iran's first domestically produced satellite, Fars news agency reported.

"This satellite is just a messenger of peace and justice," Ahmadinejad said in a speech in the city Mashad in north-eastern Iran.

Ahmadinejad on Tuesday ordered the launching of Omid (Hope) on a domestically produced Safir 2 rocket. The move caused concern in the West as the capability of launching satellites would also enable Iran to launch ballistic missiles.

Ahmadinejad: Obama's changes welcome, if serious

Mahmoud AhmadinejadTehran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday said that if the changes proclaimed by his US counterpart were serious, Tehran would welcome them.

"If the changes mentioned (by Obama) were truly serious and basic, then we would welcome them, but if there was only a change of rhetoric or tactics, then nothing would change," Ahmadinejad said in a speech in the city Kermanshah in western Iran.

US President Obama on Monday said "if countries like Iran are willing to unclench their fist, they will find an extended hand from us."

Ahmadinejad blames Arab leaders over Gaza conflict

Mahmoud AhmadinejadTehran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday blamed Arab leaders for not showing sufficient support for the Palestinians over the conflict on the Gaza Strip.

"The Arab League should face its responsibility" Ahmadinejad told reporters in a press conference in Tehran.

"If they (Arab leaders) have differences, today is not the day to deal with them but today is the day to fulfil their Islamic duties as every day of hesitation means the killing of more innocent people in Gaza," the president said.

Ahmadinejad not interested in meeting with Sarkozy

Mahmoud AhmadinejadTehran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that he was not interested in meeting his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy.

"One of the European heads of states who tries to show off as world power and talk like Pharaohs recently said that he would not talk to and shake hands with someone who said that the Zionist regime (Israel) should be eliminated," Ahmadinejad said in a speech in Ahvaz, south-western Iran.

He was referring to Sarkozy's remarks that he would neither offer his hand to or share a table with him because of Ahmadinejad's antipathy toward Israel.
