Antony says Government to continue efforts to trace PoWs

AK AntonyNew Delhi, Dec 17 : Defence Minister A K Antony today said the government will continue efforts to pursue tracing the 54 missing Prisoners of Wars (PoWs).

Addressing a meeting of the war widows here, Antony said, "The fate of the PoWs and their families continues to haunt him. We tried our best but still we are not able to find the truth. The family members of the PoWs went to Pakistan, but they were not allowed to see all the places. We have not abandoned our efforts and will continue whatever humanly is possible in this regard to locate these people."

India not planning to attack Pakistan, minister says New Delhi  - India said Tuesday it was not planning any military action against Pakistan but emphasized that Islamabad will have to take action against militants operating from its soil for bilateral relations to improve.

Federal Defence Minister AK Antony made the comments in New Delhi after news reports said India had prepared to attack Pakistan in the aftermath of the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

Indian officials have blamed Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba for the Mumbai carnage that left over 170 people dead.

To normalise relations, Pak must act against militants: AntonyNew Delhi, Dec 16 : Defence Minister A K Antony today ruled out taking any military action against Pakistan, and said that Islamabad will have to act against militants involved in the Mumbai terror attacks to normalise relations with New Delhi.

Several reports appearing in media suggested that India was preparing for "air strikes" against terror camps in Pakistan immediately after the 26/11-terror assault in Mumbai. Defence ministry officials, however, refused to react to the speculative reports.

Defence Minister denies tampering of equipment of MBT Arjun during trial

A K AntonyNew Delhi, Dec 11 : Defence Minister AK Antony today informed Rajya Sabha that the Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun was not tampered during any trials.

The army with successful results has carried out reliability trials systematically, he said, adding that the DRDO has not proposed any enquiry into the matter.

Antony denied knowledge whether a lobby in the Army is in favour of the purchase for entire equipment for army from foreign countries.

The Defence Minister said Full Scale Engineering Development (FSED) Phase 1 for Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) was sanctioned in 1993.

Antony meets three services chiefs, reviews terror threat from air

AK AntonyNew Delhi, Dec 3 : In wake of terrorists from across the border using sea route to attack Mumbai, Defence Minister AK Antony today reviewed in detail preparedness of the Armed Forces against any possible terror threats from air.

Antony’s took stock of the situation a day after the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) made plans for strengthening internal security by taking a series of measures.

The Defence Minister called for greater coordination among all agencies – both Defence and Internal Security in such a way that intelligence inputs available become actionable.

Antony releases Defence Ministry''s new Security Manual

A K AntonyNew Delhi, Nov 17 : Defence Minister A. K. Antony released the in-house ''Manual of Security Instructions - 2008 (MSI-2008)'' at a brief function in his office here today.

Speaking on the occasion Antony underlined the security drill to tackle emerging threats and unpredictable risks.

The Defence Minister lauded the Security Wing of the Defence Ministry in compiling the detailed security instructions.

Antony called upon the security guards and officers to adhere to the instructions in spirit and action.
