Pop legend Dave Dee loses battle against cancerLondon, January 10 : Sixties pop legend Dave Dee has passed away following a long battle against prostate cancer. He was 65.

He died "peacefully" on January 9 at Kingston Hospital in Surrey, England, where he was admitted on New Year's Eve.

The singer, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer nearly 10 years ago, had his family members at his bedside at the time of his death.

He is survived by his mother Betty, his children and by Lesley, his partner during his final two years.

Dee, whose real name was David Harman, was originally a police officer who gave up his job to make money from music.

His band, whose name was an amalgam of members' nicknames, had eight top 10 hits in the 1960s. Between 1965 and 1969, the group frequently spent more weeks in the Singles Chart in Britain than The Beatles.
