Washington, Aug 25: During his nine-year long rule, former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf dealt lightly with terrorists, leaving them able to make trouble both for Afghanistan, on one side of his nation, and India on the other, said an editorial in the Houston Chronicle.

It said that now it was up to Nawaz Shraif and Asif Ali Zardari to adopt a crack-down policy against Al Qaeda militants.

Islamabad, Aug 25: PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, who is all set to become the next President of Pakistan, has said that the Pakistan unit of the Taliban – the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) – should be put on the list of banned organisations in Pakistan as it was presently having an “upper hand” is so far as the Pakistan Government’s war against terror was concerned.

He said both the world and Pakistan were losing the war on terror.

Lahore Aug 24 : Responding to PML-N leader and former premier Nawaz Sharif’s repeated insistence that the PPP should fulfill its promise of restoring sacked judges, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari said that agreements with PML-N “are not holy like the holy Quran and the Hadith” and can be modified if circumstances change.

He said this in an interview with BBC Urdu on Saturday, reported the Daily Times.

Islamabad, Aug 24 : Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Information Secretary, Ahsan Iqbal, has said that verbal and written agreements have no importance in the politics of PPP’s Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

He expressed his party’s disappointment over remarks of Asif Zardari, saying if agreements, deals have no significance in politics then we will have to think on the politics of Muhammad Ali Jinnah also.

Islamabad - Former premier Nawaz Sharif offered his backing Saturday to Asif Ali Zardari, the widower of assassinated leader Benazir Bhutto, in Pakistan's presidential race, provided that he abolishes the president's power to dissolve parliament.

On Friday, Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) unanimously put forward Zardari, who has headed the PPP since her assassination in December last year, for the post. The election has been set for September 6.

Quetta, Aug 23 : Almost all the coalition partners in the Balochistan provincial assembly have assured the provincial Chief Minister Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani of their support to PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari as the coalition candidate for the post of president.

The chief minister had in recent meetings with parliamentary leaders of different parties in the provincial assembly in Islamabad had informed them about the PPP’s decision to nominate Zardari.
