New York - Zardari denounces US strikes inside PakistanPakistan's new President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday used the UN General Assembly podium to denounce the United States for conducting unauthorized military strikes against terrorist targets inside Pakistani territory.

"Unilateral actions of great powers should not inflame the passion of allies," Zardari said in his first appearance before a body that has been used often by some world leaders to attack US foreign policies.

Asif Ali ZardariIslamabad, Sept 25 : Amid threat of more Marriott-like terror strikes in the near future in Pakistan from the militant outfit Fedayeen al-Islam (which claimed responsibility for Saturday’s blast), the country’s President Asif Ali Zardari has appealed to his countrymen to support the war-on-terror.

He said that international support for Pakistani anti-terror efforts was “important”, but the unilateral US strikes undermined efforts to “win hearts and minds” of his countrymen.

Zardari’s “affected part of heart” found functioning well

Pakistan President Asif Ali ZardariIslamabad, Sept 25 : Newly-elected Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari underwent a heart checkup last evening in New Yorl with cardiologists including Dr. Javed Suleman, Martin Goldman and Samin Sharma in New York.

The doctors attending to him said that the “affected part of his heart” was found functioning normally and he was in overall good health.

“According to test reports, affected part of Zardari’s heart was also functioning properly,” The News quoted Dr. Suleman as saying.

New York, Sept 25 : Bush non-committal to Zardari over unilateral strikesAfter his recent meeting with his US counterpart George Bush in New York, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari appeared satisfied that there would be no more incursions by US-led forces from across the Afghan border, reported the Daily Times.

Though, he was non-committal about the assurances given by Bush to him over the issue, the paper added.
