Mamata-BanerjeeNew Delhi, March 12 : An embarrassed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Wednesday that social activist Anna Hazare skipped her rally here because he was unwell.

The much publicised joint rally of Hazare and the Trinamool chief ended with the former keeping away and organisers admitting that the crowd turnout was poor.

"Anna is not keeping well. He has congestion...," a visibly disappointed Banerjee told the media later.

Banerjee, who was the only speaker, appealed to the people to radically change the country's political system.

"The reason I am here is to announce my support to didi (Mamata Banerjee). I am supporting didi not because of her party, but due to her thoughts towards the country and society," said Hazare while addressing a press conference here along with Banerjee.

"I spent my entire life for the country and the society. For the first time, I have met a person like didi who thinks for the country and society," Hazare added.

"Arvind Kejriwal sent a message that he cannot come today (Thursday) owing to ill-health, but will send some of his party officials to meet Hazare. He is expected to come as soon as he feels better," the aide told IANS.

Anna-SMS-cardsNew Delhi, Nov 30 : A court here Saturday asked Delhi Police to file an action taken report on a plea seeking an FIR against the erstwhile Team Anna for allegedly cheating people by selling Anna SMS cards.

The Anna SMS card was distributed during the movement against corruption led by Team Anna, also called India Against Corruption (IAC) in 2012, with a coupon of Rs. 25, for the purpose of receiving news alerts and updates on the anti-corruption movement.

A subscription was valid for a year, but the service was abruptly discontinued.

Not misusing Anna's name for campaigning: Kejriwal

arvind-kejriwalNew Delhi, Nov 20 : Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday denied that the party was misusing Anna Hazare's name during the Delhi assembly poll campaign and charged that there was a conspiracy to mislead the social activist.

"Anna said yesterday (Tuesday) that some people showed him posters with his photo being used for AAP. We told Anna that the posters were not real," said Kejriwal.

"It means fake posters were printed. There is a conspiracy to mislead Anna against us," he said.

"I am ready to talk to him. We are not enemies. I wrote to him because I had a few doubts that needed to be clarified," he told media here today

He further revealed that he wrote a letter to Kejriwal to clarify whether his name was being misused by the AAP during its election campaigns.

"He (Kejriwal) said that Anna Hazare's Jan Lokpal Bill would be passed on 29th December. But using my name is wrong," he said.

"Intermediaries do not let me talk to Anna Hazare, have tried to talk to him, people in the middle don't allow me," Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal on Monday responded to Hazare's letter regarding misuse of funds collected for the Jan Lokpal Bill, and said that he would withdraw his candidature from the Delhi Assembly elections if there is any discrepancy in AAP accounts.

"I didn't say that Modi is not communal. I said that I can't say, as I don't have any evidence. I have never praised him," Hazare said.

"He is leading a party (Bharatiya Janata Party) (in the next general elections) which is communal so that makes him communal too," Hazare said.

Anna-HazareHaridwar, May 14 : Social activist Anna Hazare visited Shanti Kunj here, the headquarters of the Gayatri Parivar, and began his Jan Jagran Yatra for Uttarakhand Tuesday.

Speaking at the Mrityunjaya auditorium at the Dev Sanskrati University here, Hazare said he felt "charged" after visiting the campus and called for a change in the system, rather than mere change of power from one party to another.

Urging people to replace all elected representatives who did not work for the welfare of the people, Hazare said the time had come for a corruption-free and people-oriented political system.

Hazare to begin nationwide tour Sunday

Anna-HazareMumbai, March 30 : Anna Hazare will embark on a year-long, all-India tour from Sunday to campaign for a stronger Lokpal bill, electoral reforms and other issues he has been raising for the past few years, an aide said here.

The first phase of the nationwide tour, planned since a year, will kick off from Amritsar in Punjab, and then to Haryana and Uttaranchal. In these three states, the 75-year old Hazare is scheduled to address meetings in at least three dozen cities and towns, culminating in Haridwar on April 17.

However, ant-graft activist Anna Hazare rejected the new draft too, saying the bill proposed by the Cabinet is useless as it is unable to eradicate corruption from the country.

The Lokpal Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha during the winter session of Parliament in 2011, but ran into hurdles in the Rajya Sabha.
