Anand Sharma congratulates ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘Smile Pinky’ team

Slumdog Millionaire, Smile PinkiNew Delhi, Feb 23 : Union Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma today congratulated the `Slumdog Millionaire' and `Smile Pinky' team for winning prestigious Oscar Awards.

In his message, Sharma said, " This is the finest hour of Indian cinema in the global scenario."

The Slumdog Millionaire took the best picture Academy Award and seven other Oscars. The movie won Oscar for Best Picture, Best Direction, Best Original Song, Best Original Score, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Cinematography and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Sharma told reporters here that Pakistan should adhere to the international law, and reiterated that Pakistan owed an explanation to the international community for allowing banned organisations to function under a changed name.

Reacting to reports from Pakistan's investigators that Bangladesh based terror outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami (HuJI) could be connected to the Mumbai attacks, Sharma said, "Pakistan must stop obfuscations, deflections and pointing to red herrings. There has to be a demonstrated action against the organization and individuals that have been named."
