Pakistan can consider importing fuels like diesel and jet oil from India if right prices are offered, Pakistan's petroleum minister Asim Hussain said.

Hussain, who is in India to attend the Petrotech 2012, said, "We need to know the price... if good price is given, why not? If right prices are given, we have no problems importing." The Pakistani minister was responding to a question whether Pakistan's government would permit fuel imports from India via the overland route in tankers.

The minister added that a team from Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL) would pay a visit to Pakistan in the near future to discuss fuel prices.

Pakistan has already removed petroleum fuels from the list of items that it doesn't allow to be imported from India. It is also worth mentioning here that Pakistan is already importing of diesel and jet fuel from India, but it allowed only via the sea route. As India has several oil refineries close to the border between the two countries, Indian authorities want Pakistan to allow fuel imports via road route.

Earlier in March 2012, Pakistan's then Petroleum & Natural Resources Secretary Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry had had discussions with his Indian counterpart G C Chaturvedi over the prospects of Pakistan importing fuels from India.

India and Pakistan are also mulling a plan to lay a 200-kilometer pipeline from Bathinda to Lahore for trading of petroleum products.
