New Delhi, Mar 21 : Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has said Pakistan has failed to probe the involvement of official agencies in the Mumbai attacks.

Taking part in a television programme, Chidambaram said that neither has Islamabad allowed the Federal Bureau of Investigation to probe the 26/11 attacks, nor did it share any information it may have got from the interrogation of people detained in that country in connection with the attacks.

He further said that considering the "overwhelming evidence" India has, he is entitled to presume Islamabad''s involvement in the Mumbai strikes and the presumption can only be countered when " evidence to the contrary is available in the investigation."

Dismissing the probability of permitting Pakistan to question the lone surviving terrorist in Mumbai attacks Ajmal Amir Kasab, Chidambaram said, "Ajmal Kasab has asked for consular access. We have passed on that request to Pakistan. Pakistan, to the best of my knowledge, has not responded to that request. So, Pakistan would have to first admit that Kasab is a Pakistani citizen and they will, therefore, provide him consular access. We have now stopped even at the very threshold"

The Home Minister revealed that India will use "coercive diplomacy" to ensure that perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks are brought to justice.

When asked about his views on the diminishing inclination of Pakistan to pursue the Mumbai terror prosecution in the present situation of political turmoil, Chidambaram said "it will be sad if they have neither the time nor the inclination". (ANI)
