Pak Police arrest one with explosives at Benazir’s rally

Peshawar, Dec 26: The Peshawar Police today said that they have arrested a teenager who was carrying a small quantity of explosives at an election rally of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

The boy, aged about 16, was caught at the gate of the rally, “he was carrying explosive material. We are investigating into the matter,” The News quoted Peshawar Police Chief Mohammad Tahir, assaying.

Tahir refused to divulge more details.

A police official, who was on deputed at the rally, said the boy was carrying explosive material and nails in his pocket.

He went on to say that the quantity of explosives -- about 200 grams (seven ounces) -- would not have caused casualties but could have set off panic in the crowd.

The boy, however, said that he had attended a wedding the previous night and forgot to empty his pocket before coming to the rally, the official added. (ANI)
