Oz pacer Lee has got to get his act together
Abu Dhabi (UAE), Apr. 30 : Australian fast bowler Brett Lee, who has 310 wickets at 30.81 from 76 Tests and an equal number of wickets in one-day internationals, is hoping to convince selectors of his fitness ahead of the selection of touring parties for both the World Twenty20 and the Ashes.
After this series, he will fly back to South Africa for the final week of the Indian Premier League, where he has been training with the Kings XI Punjab.
"I''m really close. The main aim here is the Ashes, with all due respect to all other cricket. If I''m back to my best, which I hope to be doing, I don''t see a problem at all [in being selected]. Hopefully my 10-year-career, 300 wickets in both one-dayers and Test matches will speak for itself - providing I''m fit, of course," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Lee, as saying.
Lee has left no one in doubt that his goal is to reclaim the leadership of the pace attack, a mantle he had inherited after the retirement of Glenn McGrath.
Fellow quick Stuart Clark, another returning from injury, now rates Mitchell Johnson as the bowling leader.
"I think Mitchell has been absolutely outstanding. I think he''s earned the right, if you want to put a tag on someone, to be leader of the pack at the moment. He thoroughly deserves it and whoever else plays with him, it''s up to them to fit in around them, support him," Clark said.
Lee is emphatic that he wants the job back and is keen to return to a mentoring role with the emerging quicks. (ANI)
