Over 350 students turn out for Airoli chess meet

KR Gopi Vichar Manch and Sahyadri Samajik Seva Sanstha organised an inter-school chess competition for school children of Airoli. This competition was conducted at the Heggade Bhavana, Sector-15 on Sunday and 370 students participated in it. The competition was inaugurated by KR Gopi, President of Small Scale Industries Association.

There were four categories in the championship- standard 1-3, standard 4-5, standard 6-7 and standard 8-9. Three winners were chosen from each category. The 'best school' trophy was given to NHP School, Airoli for maximum participation and winning maximum number of prizes.

Gopi said, "We conducted this competition to encourage children to play chess and we also gave each and every participant a trophy for participating in the event. We did not want to discourage any child, and at the same time we wanted to encourage those who took the game seriously and hence we gave away the first, second and third position to those who were really good and gave a trophy to others."

Prabhakar Hegde, Secretary of Heggade Bhavana, said, "It was good to see the competitive spirit of the small children who come for the competition conducted over here." (Aarti Kini / DNA-Daily News & Analysis Source: 3D Syndication )
