Organic Pastures Dairy’s Raw Milk recalled
The California Department of Food and Agriculture said that raw whole milk produced by Organic Pastures Dairy in Fresno County has been recalled as it has been tested positive for the presence of campylobacter bacteria.
As per California State Veterinarian Annette Jones, the recalled milk having a code date of OCT 24 is also facing a quarantine order. So far, no illness has been reported. As per the recall, Organic Pastures Dairy brand Grade-A raw milk having OCT 24 code date should be immediately removed from retail shelves.
People having the product are suggested to dispose it off. California Department of Food and Agriculture inspectors said that they have found the bacteria while carrying out normal product testing at the facility.
It is not the first time when a recall has been made linking Organic Pastures Dairy. In September 2012, raw milk, raw skin milk (non-fat) and raw cream produced by the dairy were also recalled owing to the same reason, campylobacter bacteria.
In May 2012 as well the raw milk, raw skin milk (non-fat) and raw cream and raw butter from the dairy were recalled due to the same bacteria. Campylobacteriosis is an infection that can happen due to bacteria found in the contaminated milk.
Its symptoms include food poisoning, abdominal pain, diarrhea and fever. There can be some cases, where some people may not even show symptoms at all. Generally, patients recover between two to five days. But in certain cases there can be consequences.
The California Department of Food and Agriculture said, “In some persons with compromised immune systems, it can cause a serious, life-threatening infection. A small percentage of people may have joint pain and swelling after infection”.
