Opera singer booed by anti-fur protestors for opening Harrods salec
London, December 28 : Opera singer Katherine Jenkins was booed by anti-fur protestors as she stepped of horse-drawn carriage out to open Harrods' winter sale.
The award-winning mezzo-soprano heard "shame on Katherine" slogans as she arrived after singer Leona Lewis reportedly declined to open the sale owing to the store's policy of selling fur.
The Welsh musician had been escorted into the store by owner Mohamed Al Fayed, reports the BBC.
Campaigners alleged that Harrods was the only major UK store to offer imported fur for sale.
Activist John Wilson, from the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade, said: "We are gathered here today because of our disgust at Ms Jenkins who professes to be against animal cruelty and the fur trade."
Katherine, however, told reporters: "Personally I do not eat meat or wear fur, but people are entitled to their opinions." (ANI)
