Olympian Bindra Creates Awareness On Cancer

Abhinav BindraAbhinav Bindra, olympian gold medalist shooter, flagged off a cancer awareness walkathon in the city to make people aware about the deadly disease.

A volunteer organization 'Cancer Sahayta Sahyog' organized the event.

While flagging off the walkathon, Bindra said, "I am working on personal basis to generate awareness among people about cancer."

"I have been associated with them (Cancer Sahayta Sahyog) as awareness on the issue of cancer is important," he said adding that "awareness is the key element towards fighting the disease."

Lots of people from different fields of life took part in the walkathon.

"Awareness is everything in prevention. So awareness is very, very important and it's one of the key elements towards a fight against a disease like cancer," said Bindra.

As per WHO reports, more than 11 million people get diagnosed with this deadly disease each year, with 800,000 cases being reported from India.

Every year, approx 7-milion people lost their lives due to cancer, which accounts for 12.5% of deaths throughout the world.
