OIL opens turbine power plant in Rajasthan

OIL opens turbine power plant in RajasthanState-owned, Oil India Ltd (OIL) has said that it has opened a new wind turbine power plant with a capacity of 54-MW in the western state of Rajasthan.

The wind turbine power plant project includes 27 wind turbine generator (WTG) units of 2,000 kilo-watt each. The plant will be located at Dangri in Jaisalmer district, according to a statement released by the company.

"The project was completed at a cost of Rs. 360 crore and within 142 days from the date of issuing the letter of award (LOA) to the bidder," it said.

OIL stepped into the renewable energy sector with the launch of a 13.6 MW wind energy project in Rajasthan in the previous year. The company's total installed wind power capacity rose to 67.6 MW. OIL said that the company entry into the renewable energy sector was a strategic decision.

OIL has also entered the solar energy sector with the opening of its second 100 kW solar captive power plant at Jaisalmer. Its first 100 kW solar plant is located in the eastern state of Assam and it will complete a new 5 MW solar power plant near Ramgarh in Jaisalmer during the third quarter of the year.
