NZers feeling more secure about their jobsIt has been specified by Research New Zealand polling that depite increase in jobless people to its highest level in six years, most Kiwis are confident about their job security and believe that the Government is taking the right steps to manage the recession.

It was put forward by the poll that two thirds (68%) of respondents believe the state of the economy is having an impact on their current financial situation and standard of living, and one in six (18%) feel it is having a 'big impact'.

Research New Zealand Director Emanuel Kalafatelis said that in February 2009 the results were similar to the proportion (71%) however significantly lower than it was in October 2008 (81%) and September 2008 (90%). This might be due to people adjusting their expenditure.

And in spite of all the recession talks, around one-half of Kiwis (44%) stayed cautiously hopeful their financial situation will improve in the next 12 months. The latest figures show an important improvement on the result earlier this year.

Mr Kalafatelis said, “Furthermore, almost two thirds of us (63%) agree that the government is taking the right steps to manage the recession, with 15% strong agreeing.”

He told that the poll also found that79% those in paid employment continue to believe their jobs are secure.
