NRO not for PPP’s benefit: Benazir

Lahore, Oct 5 : Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has rejected the impression that the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was brought to benefit the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) alone.

She said that the reconciliation was reached to benefit all political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Geo News reported.

Bhutto demanded a level-playing field for all political parties, and said untried cases against politicians must be withdrawn.

She said cases against Nawaz Sharif and Javed Hashmi should also be withdrawn under the NRO.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Government has agreed to withdraw all cases against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders and workers.

MQM convenor Dr Imran Farooq said that the MQM had asked the government to withdraw cases against political workers as it had planned to withdraw cases against leaders in the proposed NRO.

Earlier, the channel reported that the MQM had directed its ministers to attend cabinet meetings it had earlier boycotted. (ANI)
