NRI doctor successfully performs surgery with help of Google Glass
A NRI doctor has performed a surgery in Jaipur, India, with the help of Google Glass; successfully showing the vital role that modern gadgets can play in the field of medical science.
Under supervision of U. S.-based orthopedic surgeon Selene G. Parekh, a team of doctors successfully performed a foot and ankle surgery wearing Google Glass. The surgery was also broadcasted live on Google's website via Internet.
The surgery was performed during a three-day annual Indo-U. S. conference, which was attended by a team of experts from the U. S. The conference was headed by Dr. Ashish Sharma.
Google Glass allowed the doctor to look at an X-Ray or MRI without taking an eye off from the patient. The innovative wearable computer also allowed the doctor to connect with the patient's family or friends during the surgery.
Speaking about the use of Google Glass in the surgery, Dr. Sharma said, "Earlier, during surgeries, to show something to another doctor, we had to keep moving .. During this, there are chances of infection. So, in this technology, the image seen by the doctor using Google glass will be seen by everyone throughout the world."
Doctors said Google Glass would revolutionize surgery and would help aspiring surgeons learn procedures without being part of operation team.
It was not the first time when a doctor used Google Glass during a surgery. In September 2013, a doctor in Chennai became the first Indian to carry out a surgery wearing the Google Glass.
