Non-producing well leaks natural gas in the Gulf of Mexico
The Coast Guard has said that the non-producing well at an oil and gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico about 75 miles off the Louisiana coast has leaked Natural gas as the workers lost control while they were trying to plug the well.
Talos Energy LLC President Timothy S. Duncan said that the a crew of five workers were working to plug the old well permanently when saltwater and a small amount of natural gas and the light oil and water mixture called condensate leaked on Monday. The crew were able to come back safely form the site.
"In an abundance of caution, we decided to evacuate the platform and mobilize our spill response team," the statement from the Houston-based company said
Duncan also said that the workers from the Wild Well Control Inc are working to control the well on Tuesday and the work is expected to be completed on Wednesday. Coast Guard Lt. Lily Zepeda said pointed out that there was no explosion or fire on the platform as the well did not blow out but a leak cause the material to flow out. She also said that about six barrels of light condensate had been released and it is all expected to be evaporated.
