Passenger car sales down 4.52 percent in December

Passenger-car-salesNew Delhi, Jan 9 : Sale of domestic passenger cars fell 4.52 percent in December 2013, indicating a bearish consumer market due to slow economic growth, high fuel and interest costs.

Data furnished Monday by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed that 132,561 units were sold in the month under review as against an offtake of 138,835 units in the corresponding period of 2012.

Utility vehicles sales fell by 10.44 percent at 40,348 units from 45,049 units sold in the corresponding period of 2012.

Indian Oil divestment decision deferred by EGoM

P-ChidambaramNew Delhi, Jan 9 : An Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) headed by Finance Minister P.  Chidambaram Thursday deferred a decision on disinvestment in state-run Indian Oil Corp (IOC).

"The decision on disinvestment has been deferred," Petroleum Minister M.  Veerappa Moily told media persons here after the EGoM meeting.

The Petroleum Ministry itself has been strongly opposing the stake sale.  The minister had said that IOC cannot be sold when the scrip is way lower than the 52-week peak of Rs. 375 reached on Jan 18 last year.
