Incidences of TB increasing again in some regions: CDC Report

After a long period of strong progress in dealing with tuberculosis (TB), the number of cases has increased in the United States in the recent times. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Thursday reported that last year, incidences of the one the deadliest disease saw a rise. When compared with 2014, the cases reported in 2015 are more in each of the twenty-nine states and also in the District of Columbia.

In 2015, number of cases increased was not significant, it accounted for 157, and total number of cases reached to 9,563. Two-thirds of people suffering from TB were born abroad, with Asians accounting for the most cases (3,007) and the highest rate of 28.2 cases per 100,000 persons. On the other hand, there were only 0.5 cases per 100,000 Whites the same year.

The cancer coalition of South Georgia was formed when Phoebe joined Albany Area Primary Healthcare (AAPHC), the health department and many other regional hospitals. The coalition helped control cancer in Terrell County some 10 years ago, when county had 47% of the colorectal cancer rate, highest in the country. AAPHC was a sole medical provider in the whole county.

Sleep quality improves for middle-age adults who consume lower calorie diet rich in proteins

A latest study suggested that overweight middle-aged adults shedding weight eating with a protein-rich diet have more chances to have a better sleep than the ones losing weight eating a normal quantity of proteins.

Wayne Campbell from Purdue University in the US said that generally, the researches take into account the effects sleep has on diet and weight control, but their study has flipped that query asking the effects of shedding weight and diet, particularly the quantity of proteins, on sleep.

Caffeine consumption during pregnancy can put life of unborn child in danger

A new study has claimed that a woman has more risk of miscarriage in case she and her partner consume over two caffeinated drinks regularly during the weeks prior to getting pregnant. The study has been published online in journal Fertility and Sterility

It has also reported that the ones who consumed over two caffeinated beverages every day in the initial 49 days of pregnancy also highly vulnerable to miscarry.

The research team from the National Health Institutes of Health and Ohio State University, Columbus examined the lifestyle habits of 344 couples. They noted down their habits like use of cigarette, caffeine intake and multivitamin consumption. The researchers kept a track of the participants, weeks prior to they had conceived to till seven months into the pregnancy.

South Korea detects bird flu in ducks on a poultry farm near Seoul

On Monday, an agriculture ministry official told Reuters that South Korea has found bird flu in ducks on a poultry farm, 80 kilometers east of Seoul. It has come as the first discovery in four months and has been detected 30 days after the nation gained its bird flu-free status back.

The case included a strain called H5N8, which is the same kind of influenza that occurred in November 2015. The officials said that all 11,604 ducks present at the infected farm in the city of Icheon have been killed.

Sputnik News reported that the virus in avian influenza aka bird flu was detected for the first time in 1997 when it affected many people. Among the people who contracted the flu, six lost their lives. The respiratory disease can spread to humans from the bird species.

Study: Zika virus may have arrived in Brazil two years before first reported cases

A latest study suggested that the Zika virus could have first spread in Brazil around a couple of years before the first reported cases. The mosquito-borne virus may possibly have reached the country in 2013, between May and December.

Though Brazilian health officials observed a cluster of illnesses identified by fever and rash towards the end of 2014, they didn't diagnose the patients with the less-known Zika virus officially before May last year.

As per an analysis of many Zika virus genomes appeared on Thursday in Science, international travel might have spread Zika to Brazil from French Polynesia, which was hit by Zika outbreak during the time period from 2013 to 2014.
