Ola Money helps millions of Indians go cashless; 1500 pct increase in wallet recharges

New Delhi [India], Nov 10 : Digital payment solution from taxi aggregator Ola has reported over 1500 percent increase in recharges across the 102 cities of its operation.

The Ola Money wallet has witnessed unprecedented traction amongst consumers over the last 12-15 hours with a 15 times increase in recharge volume. In many smaller towns and cities across the country, which have predominantly been high on cash usage, there has been as much as 30 times growth.

This includes cities like Nagpur, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Lucknow, Patna, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Indore etc. A majority of rides are being paid for using Ola Money as against cash across India.

Pietersen favours Abbott over Morkel for Hobart Test

Johannesburg [South Africa], Nov.10 : Putting his weight behind the horses-for-courses approach, former England batsman Kevin Pietersen insisted that the less-experienced paceman should replace Dale Steyn for the second Test of the three-match series against Australia beginning in Hobart on Saturday.

Specifying his stance, the South Africa-origin batsman said that the Proteas should prefer Kyle Abbott over more-experienced Morne Morkel for the crucial match against the Steve Smith-led side.

Pietersen, who is currently in Australia as a commentator with Nine's Wide World of Sports ahead of his Big Bash return with Melbourne Stars, had earlier backed Morkel's inclusion in the series opener at the WACA Ground in Perth.

Brad Pitt clears child abuse investigation

Washington D.C. [USA], Nov. 10 : Looks like the wind is in favour of Brad Pitt, who is currently in the custody battle for his six children with Angelina Jolie.

The 52-year-old actor has been cleared of child abuse allegations by the Los Angeles Country Department of Children and Family Services, reports TMZ.com.

According to the article, the department has closed its child abuse investigation into an incident on a private jet between Pitt and 15-year-old Maddox.

A spokesperson for Jolie released a statement that said, "The job of the DCFS is to make sure the children are in a safe and secure situation. As we said earlier this week, childcare professionals encouraged a legal agreement accepted and signed by both sides that was in the best interest of the children."

Central bank will in due course infuse notes of Rs. 1000: Shaktikanta Das

New Delhi [India], Nov 10 : Backing the government's decision to demonetize Rs. 500 and 1,000 currency notes, Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das on Thursday said that there was a need to revive the currency as the value of rupee has depreciated after 2001, adding notes of Rs. 1,000 will be introduced in due course.

Throwing light on the other logical reasons behind the government deciding to infuse the new currency, Das said: "Firstly, the logistical reason behind the very decision was to make it convenient for the citizens to exchange or deposit the old notes and get the value out of the new notes."

Indian umpire Sundaram Ravi to officiate NZ-Pak Test series

Karachi [Pakistan], Nov.10 : Indian umpire Sundaram Ravi is all set to officiate the two-match Test series between New Zealand and Pakistan beginning November 17 at Hagley Oval.

The 50-year-old, who made his Test umpiring debut in October 2013 at Chittagong when Bangladesh hosted New Zealand, has been given on-field duty and will stand alongside experienced Ian Gould of England for the opening Test.

Meanwhile, Australia's Simon Fry, who is currently officiating the ongoing final match of the Zimbabwe-Sri Lanka series in Harare, will serve as the TV umpire during the Christchurch Test.

Fry would then join the Indian umpire in the middle for the second Test beginning November 25 at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Gould will monitor the TV replays of that match.
