Demonetisation: PM Modi to attend RS today as oppn ups the ante

New Delhi [India], Nov. 24 : As the government attempts to find a truce with a united opposition, which has disrupted both the Houses of Parliament since the beginning of the Winter Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Rajya Sabha and is likely to participate in the discussion on demonetisation.

Since the first day of the ongoing Winter Session, the opposition leaders are calling for the Prime Minister to speak on the issue.

Even though most of them support the government's move on fight against black money, they are protesting against the way it was implemented as even after third week of the announcement on November 8, long queues can be seen outside ATMs and banks, with people looking to either exchange or deposit old notes.

U.S. to provide USD 39 million assistance for refugees returning to Afghanistan

Washington D.C. [United States], Nov. 24 : The United States has announced to provide over USD 39 million to meet the extraordinary needs of Afghan refugees returning to Afghanistan. This brings the total U.S. contribution to the Afghan humanitarian response to more than $207 million since the beginning of FY 2016.

Since January, more than 3, 80,000 registered Afghan refugees have returned home.

This funding includes more than $19 million in support for the United Nations High Commissioner for refugees to help address the urgent needs of these vulnerable individuals, including by providing them with shelter, essential household items and supplies for winter.

Trent Boult ruled out of Hamilton Test

Wellington [New Zealand], Nov. 24 : New Zealand pacer Trent Boult has been ruled of the second Test of the two-match series against Pakistan---commencing from November 25 at the Seddon Park in Hamilton---due to a knee injury.

The Black Caps have brought in Doug Bracewell in place of Boult in the squad.

Head coach Mike Hesson said that Boult had "irritation in the joint of his right knee" since the India tour, which the Kiwis went on to lose 0-3. The injury had since aggravated while fielding in the first Test in Christchurch. However, the left-arm pacer did bowl in both the innings of the Christchurch Test and finished with match figures of 5 for 76.

UK to tell Pakistan to rein in terror outfits responsible for Mumbai 26/11 strikes

London [United Kingdom], Nov.24 : An anxious British Government has decided to tell Pakistan that it will have to rein in terror outfits like the LeT and the JuD who have been held responsible for terror attacks in India and elsewhere and that Islamabad would have to do more to reduce threats to the UK and the world from terrorists based on its soil.

This stern message is likely to be conveyed by Prime Minister Theresa May, when she undertakes an official visit to Pakistan sometime in the early part of 2017, and must be seen in the context of the terror strikes launched in the city of Mumbai in the last week of November 2008.

London [UK], Nov. 24 : Lady Gaga sent her "love" and "support" to Kanye West, who was recently hospitalized for 'psychiatric evaluation' after cancelling his 'Saint Pablo' tour.

The 30-year-old pop star came in support of the 39-year-old rapper through a series of powerful tweets on social media.

"I support & love u brother, I see in you bravery & courage to stop this tour & take care of YOU. You are a GREAT artist," she tweeted.

She also wrote, "It's not funny to joke about anyone's possible or not possible mental illness, this is a sensitive time for many. Let's be kind & loving."

Then in a later tweet, the 'Million Reasons' crooner insisted the public show "compassion and love" for West even though she may not "agree with everything" he does.

Tabraiz Shamsi debuts as Proteas opt to bat in Adelaide Test

Adelaide [Australia], Nov. 24 : South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first in the third and final Test against Australia here at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday.

For Australia, three debutants are there in its top-six while South Africa have made one change by including Tabraiz Shamsi, who makes his Test debut replacing Keshav Maharaj, in the playing XI.

The third game of the series has the Faf du Plessis-led side up 2-0 and the visitors have already achieved a third straight away series win Down Under which makes the Test inconsequential towards the eventual outcome.
