Sensex starts new fiscal on a positive note

SensexThe Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index, Sensex climbed 164.85 points or 0.94 per cent to 17,693 on the first trading day of the new financial year on strong cues from the global market.

The broad-based NSE nifty on the other hand moved 41.40 points or 0.8 per cent to 5,290.

Despite giving away early gains on back of lower than expected industrial output figures for the month of March, the Sensex gained in the afternoon session with renewed interest shown by investors in stocks of IT, capital goods and metal companies. FMCG stocks, however, ended the day with a sore note.

The anti-microbial activity of eight essential oils from plants was tested by study authors Yiannis Samaras and Effimia Eriotou of the Technological Educational Institute of Ionian Islands in Greece and they found that thyme completely eliminated bacteria within 60 minutes.

It was also found that Cinnamon also efficiently fight off a number of strains of bacteria including Staphylococcus species such as meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

French breast implants banned by Sweden

Breast-ImplantsThe country's Medical Products Agency has said that three brands of silicon breast implants are being banned in Sweden because of the possibility they could burst.

The Swedish news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyra reported on Friday that the action against the implants manufactured by Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) of France follows a decision by French authorities to ban the products in their country.

Some 35,000 to 45,000 European women are estimated to have received the faulty implants but there is no record of how many Swedish women are among those affected.
