Parliament session begins today

Parliament session begins todayThe ten-day session of Parliament, the last one before the next Lok Sabha polls will begin today. The session, the third part of the monsoon session which began on 21st July, is being conducted at a time when the assembly election results have a soothing effect on the government.

The session, expected to last till 23 December, will create a record of sorts for its length. It is the continuation of the 21-22 July "special session" that was called to enable the Congress-led UPA government to seek a vote of confidence after the Left parties withdrew their support over the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The government could come out with measures to put in place the FIA as also a legal framework to counter terrorism.

Congress spokesman and Minister of State for Home Shakeel Ahmed hoped that the FIA would be formalised during the session.

The Congress led UPA is on a high after its stupendous performance in the recent state assembly polls.

The Congress is set to form government in three states out of five which went to polls.

However, the main opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) would be looking to counter the Government on issues such as terror and inflation.
