Lollipop man in Britain "in tears" over Christmas tinsel ban
London - A lollipop man in Britain was Tuesday reported to be distraught over a decision to ban the Christmas tinsel fixed to the circular sign with which he traditionally escorts primary school children across a busy road.
Hampshire County Council, in south-west Britain, asked Kevin Simpson to remove the tinsel from his lollipop for safety reasons, saying it curtailed clear vision of the sign.
"The sign could still be clearly seen and I also wear distinctive uniform. There is no way I would put the children in danger. When I was told that the tinsel had to go I was in tears and so were the children," Simpson, 45, told the Southern Daily Echo newspaper.
Council leader Ken Thornber told the paper he would review the decision to see whether a "balance can be struck between festive fun and road safety." (dpa)
