Hanau, Germany - Police in the West German town of Hanau arrested Tuesday an Italian citizen after the overnight shooting of a 49-year old man.

Hanau police say that the 35-year-old man was carrying a pistol when he was arrested.

However, the state prosecutor's office said the arrested man had so far refused to shed any light on the events surrounding the shooting, which police said could have been linked to rivalry over a woman.

The victim, who lived in the Bavarian town of Karlstein, was also (Italian.)
