Warsaw  - Jakub Tomczak, a Polish man given a double-life sentence for a rape in England, arrived to do his time in western Poland on Wednesday, the Polish Press Agency reported.

Tomczak, 24, was found guilty of raping and causing permanent bodily harm to a 48-year-old Exeter woman in 2006.

He later returned to Poland, where a local court agreed to hand him over to British authorities on the basis of a European arrest warrant on the condition that Tomczak could serve his sentence in Poland.

The court in Poznan will now decide how to apply Tomczak's sentence to Polish law, where parole is allowed after 25 years. Tomczak's sentence from Britain allows parole after 9 years. (dpa)
