Taliban commander killed, woman wounded

Kabul - Afghan and NATO-led international forces killed a Taliban commander involved in planning suicide attacks in Kabul, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said Thursday.

Mohammed Daud Rahimi was killed Wednesday in Lowger province, south of the capital, a statement from the NATO-led ISAF said.

Daud Rahimi had been a well-known commander of nomad fighters during the Taliban's rule of Afghanistan and recently had been recruiting Taliban fighters, identifying targets for suicide bombers in Kabul and transporting suicide bombers into the capital, the ISAF said.

A woman was wounded in Wednesday's operation, given medical care and released, its statement said.

"The other person wounded and another individual are currently being detained after testing positive for recent contact with explosives," it added. (dpa)
