NASA Giving You Opportunity to Be an Astronaut
Since childhood we have a dream to become someone like a superhero when you grow up. Some even think of becoming an astronaut or pilot or doctor. And here’s good news for all those who since childhood wanted to be astronauts as US space agency NASA has said that it will be making them one.
The announcement was made by the space agency on Tuesday, saying that it is accepting applications for aspiring space voyagers that will join its current 47-man astronaut team.
It is for the first time since 2011 that the space agency has opened its doors for the upcoming astronauts. “Future astronauts will launch again from the Space Coast of Florida on American-made commercial spacecraft and carry out deep-space exploration missions that will advance a future of human mission to Mars”, the announcement states.
In order to qualify an applicant should be have done a bachelors in engineering, biological science, physical science or mathematics. Teachers too are also eligible to apply.
Apart from this an applicant must also have a minimum three years of work experience in a related filed, study or teaching and minimum of 1,000 hours flying a plane.
The agency said that higher preference will be given to those who have advanced degrees. A candidate should also be physically fit to pass NASA standards and stand between 5' 2" and 6' 3".
The fitness tests will include swimming the length of three pools and 10 minutes of treading water in flight suit and tennis shoes, and repeated exposure to microgravity. Short spans of weightlessness for up to 40 times a day, and high and low atmospheric pressure, will also be part of the fitness test, reports CBS.
