Exercise may reduce symptoms of Parkinson’s disease
Parkinson’s disease happens due to the death of certain brain cells leading to a brain energy crisis. Researchers from the University of Montreal have found remedy in exercise, which can act as a preventative measure for the cells burnout.
Parkinson’s disease’s symptoms include tremors. It affects movements and is the disease that develops gradually. The disease is also related to the degeneration of the basal ganglia of the brain. According to the National Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, around 1.5 million Americans are affected by the disease.
For now, there is no cure for Parkinson’s disease. Earlier, scientists were unable to explain as to why only a certain set of brain cells degenerate. But now they have found that the brain cells that are affected are the ones that have higher energy requirements than others.
Study’s lead researcher Étic Trudeau, who has spent nearly 17 years in study the part of the brain that causes Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia and drug addiction, said, “Like a motor constantly running at high speed, these neurons need to produce an incredible amount of energy to function. They appear to exhaust themselves and die prematurely”.
Trudeau said that exercise may reduce the symptoms of the disease. Some people have said that they feel better, stronger and more energy after they have adopted a routine involving exercise. They have also shared of having improvements in their walk. Trudeau believes that the disease is preventable.
