Don’t drink too much to deal with Hangover issues
You may have seen people advising to eat and stay hydrated after drinking alcohol to avoid hangover, but a new study suggested that neither eating nor drinking gallons of water can cure hangover. According to the study, the only way to avoid a hangover is drinking less alcohol.
The study included 789 students in Canada and asked them about their drinking. The students were questioned about the amount of alcohol they drink, the timeframe of consumption, and hangover severity. Study researchers calculated the estimated Blood Alcohol Concentration in those participants who reported to experience hangover and those who did not.
The researchers said they found that about 79% of the participants who reported not to experience hangovers had blood alcohol level of less than 0.10%. Lead author of the study, Joris Verster from the Utrecht University, said the researchers found people experience hangover when they consume too much alcohol.
They conducted another research to know more about hangover. They tried to discover whether drinking water or eating can affect hangover. According to the researchers, they discovered that about 54% participants ate after consuming alcohol, but there was no difference between the hangover severity of those who ate after drinking and those who didn’t.
Verster said, “Those who took food or water showed a slight statistical improvement in how they felt over those who didn't, but this didn't really translate into a meaningful difference. The the only practical way to avoid a hangover was to drink less alcohol”.
