Prostate Cancer Survivor shares his Experiences post-diagnosis

The word cancer is enough to shake someone's life. It is like pronouncing a death sentence to an individual. A prostate cancer survivor has shared his experiences after being diagnosed with the cancer.

John Julius Hungwe (68), a survivor of prostate cancer, said the condition severely impacts the family. Things were quite difficult in Zimbabwe as the cost of cancer treatment is quite costly there. Hungwe said he never wanted to die, as life is so much fun for him.

He shared that things started when he noticed he frequently urinated and things went to such a level that he used to wet his pants. A biopsy and blood tests were done and they revealing him having PSA (prostate-specific antigen) quite high.

He started with treatments, but all the money was gone and he still has more treatments. He was happy to state that PSA levels are now under control. He suggested that when a person approaches 40s then it is important that he should undergo testing.

But the culture is like this where men do not want to visit medical facilities. His friend, Bakie Padzarondora (70), also stated that he also developed similar symptoms of visiting toilets quite often.

He underwent tests and was cleared of cancer. His frequent urination problem continued, so he got catheter fitted. It was quite uncomfortable in the first few days when the catheter was fitted. But now, things are better and both seem to have got new lease on life.
