Gumbiner said they will continue to improve the care they provide children from across the region. In 2007, US News started the Best Children's Hospitals rankings. Main aim behind this move was to help families having children with rare or chronic health problems to find best medical care available.
The rankings help them know complete information, including hospital's performance. The rankings were given on the basis of responses of patient outcomes and care-related resources. Detailed questionnaires were sent to 184 pediatric hospitals. From it, US News gathered the information.

Of the 184 pediatric hospitals surveyed across the nation, just 21 ranked in all 10 specialties. Hospitals are measured in three categories- resources; delivery of healthcare and clinical outcomes.
In each of the 10 specialties surveyed, St. Louis Children's Hospital- Washington University School of Medicine has been named among the best in the nation.
