Maharashtra Govt. aims to bring parity in power tariffs in the entire state
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said on Tuesday that his government was working to bring parity in power tariffs in the entire state including capital city Mumbai.
Mr. Chavan also announced that 15,000 consumers who were consuming up to 300 units per month had been shifted from Reliance Infra to Tata Power. It may be noted here that Reliance Infra is charging higher rates from electricity compared to Tata Power. The CM assured that the government was making all efforts to facilitate smooth transition of those Reliance Infra customers who wish to change to Tata Power.
The CM added that power companies had been asked to work out a comprehensive road map on how rates could be brought down.
Speaking to reporters, he said, "We have asked companies to work out a comprehensive road-map on how tariff can be reduced. Our effort is to eventually bring about uniform rates for consumers of BEST, Tata Power and Reliance Energy."
Mr. Chavan was speaking to reporters after the presentation of the state's Interim Budget on Tuesday.
Mumbai residents receive power supply from Tata Power, Reliance Infra and BrihanMumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST).
The Maharashtra government also officially announced the 20 per cent cut in power tariff that the Cabinet had decided last month. Finance Minister Ajit Pawar assured that the respite would soon be extended to Mumbai residents as well.
