Jet Airways increases salaries of its pilots

Jet AirwaysLeading Indian aviation firm, Jet Airways has said that it is increasing the salaries of its pilots in the country, a move that will allow the company to retain its workforce in the difficult times in the industry.

The increase is expected to be implemented even as the 24 per cent stake sale plan is still awating regulatory approvals in the country. UAE's Etihad Airways has indicated that it will revise a deal to acquire a stake in the leading Indian airline. Etihad has said that the airline is looking to needed to revise the terms and it is too soon to determine the timeframe for the finalising of the deal between the two Asian airlines.

Officials indicated that the airline has increased wages of its pilots by up to 18 per cent in staggered manner with retrospective effect from 2010-11. It is believed that the highest increase is at 6 per cent per year based on the pay scales of the pilots. The company has a total workforce of 13,000 employees, out of which about 1,100 are pilots. The airline had earlier announced a wage hike of up to Rs. 18,000 for its around 7,500 ground staff.
