Tamil Nadu govt. plans to develop solar park at Ramanathapuram Tamil Nadu has revealed its plans to develop a solar power park at Ramanathapuram at a cost of Rs 920 crore.

On Friday, state industries minister P Thangamani announced that government-owned industrial development corporation TIDCO had proposed to develop the solar power park.

As per the proposal, nearly 1,000 MW of solar power projects would be established in public-private ventures, and that project should complete in around six months.

Announcing the plans, the minister said, "In the first phase, TIDCO and Bangalore-based Raasi Green Earth Energy are jointly developing 100MW capacity solar power project in Paramakudi taluk of Ramanathapuram district in 500 acres of dry lands."

In the next phase, the government plans to facilitate solar power park projects of 1,000MW in multiple locations in partnership with private players.

Thangamani claimed that the proposed solar parks would provide independent solar power producers with a number of required facilities, such as developed lands, dedicated power, roads and water supply.

Separately, Tamil Nadu Cements Corp said that it would increase its cement producing capacity from current 7-lakh tones to 19-lakh tones a year.
