Four major UK supermarkets cutting the price of petrol and diesel

Four major UK supermarkets cutting the price of petrol and dieselWith four leading supermarkets in the UK having revealed that they are reducing the price of petrol and diesel, motorists will now have to shell a little less money for filling up the tanks of their vehicles.

Since gas costs at the pumps witnessed a drop for the second time in a week, chiefly because of lower wholesale fuel prices, four major supermarkets have announced a `2p per litre' cut in petrol and diesel prices from today, April 20, onwards. The latest petrol and diesel price cut announced by the supermarkets follows an earlier price cut to the same extent, effective on Tuesday.

The four supermarkets which have announced the cut are: Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

Announcing the reduction in its petrol and diesel prices, Asda said that, as a result of its latest round of fuel-price cut, customers will now have to pay 131.7p per litre for petrol; and 135.7p per litre for diesel.

About the fuel-price cuts announced by the four supermarkets, Edmund King - the President of AA - said that the most recent cuts announced by the supermarkets are a "welcome" move, which follows AA's new analysis which has pointed out that wholesale prices of petrol and diesel are finally going in the right direction for the motorists.

King said: "Just as the weather has picked up so has drivers' optimism that they are at last getting a break from ever-rising fuel prices. Long may it last."
