Boeing claims 787 Dreamliner will be air ready in weeks
American aviation major, Boeing has claimed on Friday that its 787 Dreamliner jets will be ready for normal operations within weeks.
The company has replaced the old faulty battery with a new battery system that is safeguarded against overheating. The older battery issue caused the system to overheat and resulted in fires. The company is working with the investigators form the government to determine the issue affecting the battery of the plane that has resulted in grounding of the aircrafts around the world.
Investigations had revealed an issue in the battery that was damaged in a fire incidence on January 7 in Boston. Investigators noted that the damaged battery showed evidence of short-circuiting and a chemical reaction called `thermal runaway'. In thermal runaway, high temperatures causes progressive higher temperatures causing damage to the equipment. The entire fleet was grounded around the world until the investigators found the reason for the incidences.
The company is hoping to get the approval from the regulators in the US, Japan and all other nations for the new battery set. However, some experts suggest that regulators might need much longer time than just weeks to approve the new battery set installed in the jumbo jet.
