Apple iPhones made up 51.2% of all US smartphone sales in three-month period that ended Dec 23

Apple iPhones made up 51.2% of all US smartphone sales in three-month period that ended Dec 23 In a recently-published report, Kantar WorldPanel has revealed that Apple's iPhones grabbed the top spot among all the smartphones sold in the US during the three-month period which ended on December 23.

As per the Kantar WorldPanel report, iPhones leaped to the No. 1 position in US smartphone sales during the mentioned period, by accounting for a highly notable 51.2 percent of all smartphones sold in the country.

With a comparison with the figures from the same three-month period in 2011 showing that the iPhones comprised only 45 percent of the sales that time round, it is evident from the latest figures that Apple has been successfully enticing customers from some of its biggest smartphone market rivals.

Noting that "36% of iOS sales were derived from other smartphone users over the last year," Kantar Worldpanel analyst Mary-Ann Parlato said: "While this figure remains stable over time, the proportion of Android users moving towards the Apple brand increases." Parlato further elaborated that 19 percent of iOS sales over the last 12 months were derived from Android users, vis-a-vis barely 9 percent in 2011.

Moreover, the Kantar WorldPanel report also highlighted that the share of Android-based smartphones in the US sales for the three months up to December 23 was 44.2 percent; thereby marking a slight plunge from the last year figures for the same period.
