NTPC gets clearance from MoEF for Kudgi Power ProjectPower major, NTPC Ltd has said that it has received clearance from the union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) for the 3x800 MW Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project Stage-I.

The project is being set up in Bijapur district of the southern state of Karnataka. The Board of Directors of the state run company cleared investment proposal amounting to Rs 15,166 crore for the project, it said in a statement.

The company said that it will soon begin work on the plant. It has already sourced the 800 MW units through bulk tendering process. This will be first plant to be set up by the company in the state with a total installed capacity of 4,000 MW in two stages. The phase 1 of the project will be of 2,400 MW.

"The project will have super critical boilers and latest technology. Coal requirement will be met from NTPC's own mine at Pakhri Barwadi in Jharkhand," NTPC said in a statement.

Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board has given 1923 acres of land needed for the site to the power company and the Karnataka Government has sanctioned 5.2 TMC of water per annum from Almatti Dam for the plant.
