Toyota Plans to Compete in Indian Car Market
In order to stay in the competition, Toyota will have to compete against some of India’s biggest leaders like Swift, Ritz from Maruti Suzuki and Tata. It has been gradually making its way in to the India market, seeking to make a bigger impact.
Toyota has plans to gain bigger presences in the market. The 1200cc petrol-engine will be one of Toyota’s ways of finally getting noticed. There were earlier plans to launch the Liva in April but the company decided to postpone it for 2 months. They are hoping to sell 20,000 units of Liva and 20,000 Etios units in one year.
"India is an integral part of our global growth strategy. The Etios project is a milestone not only for Toyota in India but for globally”, Hiroji Onishi, President of Toyota Motor Asia Pacific, said.
The biggest challenge for Toyota is fighting with the small car segment top guns, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. These companies have a wide distribution and sales network across the country. They also have a multi-model strategy that attracts customers at various price points.
The Liva hatchback has officially gone on sale as of June 27. Toyota claims that it is best-in-class cabin space and has the capacity to hold 251 liters.
