Maruti mulling over importing parts from Japan
On Monday, Maruti Suzuki India said that the natural calamity that has hit Japan has severely impacted its components imports from there. It also cancelled its celebration for marking the one crore car production in India.
Said Maruti India (MSI) Managing Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Mayank Pareek that the import will not have any kind of immediate impact on the production but current assessment shows that on long term basis it will surely have some trouble.
Current situation is under control since the company always maintenance a buffer stock of these components. It is enough to support for two weeks and till that time normal production can continue.
No further details were given as full assessment is going on. Announcing about the cancellation of celebrations, MSI Chairman R C Bhargava said that such a big human tragedy had taken place and everything has been cancelled since this was no time to celebrate.
About the safety of its employees in Japan, he said that they were safe and sound.
On March 11, an earthquake measuring 8.9 on Richter's scale hit whole of Japan. It was followed by a tsunami that caused losses both in lives and property.
